Bait Al Amanah and the United States Institute of Peace recently hosted a Dialogue on Transnational Crime and Security Threats in Southeast Asia on September 10th, 2024 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
We thank all the speakers for sharing their expertise, and for highlighting the importance of combatting transnational crime and countering regional security threats for the future of Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
We were also incredibly honoured to welcome distinguished officers from the National Security Council of Malaysia (MKN), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Wisma Putra, the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM), and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN).
Due to our region's weak borders and legal frameworks, an alarming rise of transnational crime in Southeast Asia, particularly in forced labor scams and financial fraud, they have now become global threats.
As we reflect on the conclusion of this Dialogue, we call for an urgent need for stronger regional cooperation, updated legal frameworks, and active engagement from the private sector to effectively combat sophisticated criminal networks and enhance victim protection.
