In March 2025, Bait Al Amanah travelled to Kuching to further our understanding of Sarawakian perceptions towards a myriad of public and foreign policy issues.

Bait Al Amanah was represented by Karisma Putera Abd Rahman and E Kin Zane Ryan Seow.

In the brief excursion, the team connected with Dr. Arnold Puyok from UNIMAS to share perspectives on national defence commitments and maritime security cooperation with other countries. The team also had the opportunity to speak to the former Army Eastern Field Command chief, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Datuk Stephen Mundaw and Maj. (Rtd.) Frankie Jika to exchange perspectives on foreign policy developments, national defence commitments, transnational crime in East Malaysia. We are glad to hear the unique perspectives from the first Dayak commander in the Malaysian Armed Forces on the concerns of Sarawakian policymakers in national security.

Our brief excursion to Kuching has been immensely valuable in sharpening our research focus and offering unique Sarawakian perspectives that will inform and bolster our future policy recommendations. Bait Al Amanah is immensely grateful for the time and hospitality shown by our connections during our stay in Sarawak.
